Jennifer Newman

Jennifer Newman is a Marriage and Family Therapist (CA)(MFT) and a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) (Missouri), and has recently returned to her hometown of St Louis after spending the majority of her adult life in Southern California.  Jennifer holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University.  She has received training in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with Dr. Stephen Dansiger at the Institute for Creative Mindfulness, as well as Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior (BFRB) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with John Piacentini of UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neurosicence and Human Behavior.

Jennifer has experience working with individuals, families, couples, and groups. She has worked extensively with addicts/alcoholics and their loved ones, and also has particular experience with trauma, depression, anxiety, body image and self-acceptance, disordered eating, and issues related to adoption for both an adoptive parent or an adopted child.

From Jennifer:

The answer to almost any question or struggle we might have is ultimately more love, more acceptance, and more empathy, whether that is for ourselves or for others.  The journey of counseling involves radical self-acceptance and exploration, and all the more so in a world that doesn’t typically encourage or support that sort of thing.  As long as you are willing, I will meet you where you are and walk with you as far as you may choose to go.“

 A Favorite Quote from Rumi:

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
